Introducing our fabulous registrar – Helen Flint

The Maroubra Saints relies on our fabulous volunteers and this week we celebrate national volunteers week with our club registrar Helen Flint.

Helen, what’s your current role with the club?

My role with the Club is the Registrar for over 500 Players.

What’s the best part of being a volunteer with the Saints?

Helping a great club come together at the start of each season. The kids love their footy

And the toughest challenge for volunteers?

Finding enough time for the huge tasks of preparing the club before game day!

Do you have any messages for any parents thinking of volunteering for next year?

The club prides itself on a having a great reputation within the footy community. The more volunteers the better we can present ourselves as a caring footy club.

Which footy team do you follow?

Sydney Swans  forever!!!

How many years have you been involved with the Maroubra Saints?

Since my son was 5 years old

What’s been your proudest achievement over all the years you have been involved with the Saints?

The recognition the club receives from other clubs. It’s great to see the club grow over the years and the loyalty of most families in returning each year.

How many kids do you have playing with the Saints this season and in which teams?

One  –  13 year old Cooper Flint

Why do you encourage your kids (or kids in general) to play for the Maroubra Saints?

I first heard about the club through mutual friends. We wanted our son to play AFL because his Father played for St Kilda and grandfather player for Fitzroy!

Runs in the family I guess.  (Ed: Very impressive AFL family history Helen. You’ve kept that quiet!)

What’s your usual pre game message to your children?

Enjoy the game and be inclusive of all your team mates

And post-game message?

Usually congratulations on your win!

Bacon and Egg roll, Sausage roll, Salad roll or Meat Pie?

Bacon and egg roll. Nothing better on a winters day!

Long Black, Latte, Chardonnay or Decaf Skinny Cap?

Chardonnay without a doubt but never seem to find it !  (Ed: Mr President please note we may need to apply for a liquor licence to keep our Registrar happy?)

What’s been the biggest highlight of your own sporting career (so far)?

I was recognised as a good tennis player in my day, but also knowing that sport was a big part of my childhood!

Meet Michael. Former club president, Life Member and Volunteer of the year.

This week we meet a legend of our club, former President, Life Member and Volunteer of the year – Michael Reiners.

Two of my kids are still playing. Bodhi in the U17s and Sienna in the U15YG

Maroubra Saints is a great family club with the best parents and kids. I believe we are the best club in Sydney. I’m a little bit biased but believe we have the best coaches and volunteers in the competition.

What’s your usual pre game message to your players?
Play your best and for the team, it’s the second efforts that count and enjoy yourselves

And post-game message?
Hopefully we get to sing the team song ,but thank them for turning up and enjoy the rest of the weekend-kids do not like big after game speeches they move on quickly.

Are you a parent who’s extremely encouraging on the sidelines or are you more the silent staring type?
Like to encourage the players but usually being a coach busy with the runner and board.

Bacon and Egg roll, Sausage roll, Salad roll or Meat Pie?
Being a semi-vegetarian not proud to say i have had an egg and bacon roll on an occasion. (That’s OK Michael, we’ll keep this little secret safe among the Saints community ?)

Long Black, Latte or Decaf Skinny Cap?
Cap-hopefully from our new espresso machine

What’s been the biggest highlight of your own sporting career (so far)?
I used to race motocross and was a long distance runner in another life. Now, the only time I run is if Melissa is chasing me ?

Meet Cameron – Sponsor & Dad

In this new series, we wanted to showcase some of the people who support our club. This week we meet Cameron McAusland, Financial Adviser, MLC Advice, Randwick

Which footy team do you follow?
The mighty Swan’s.

I still remember the funky Capper days, then Plugger and the best catch of all time – Leap’n Leo Barry to secure the premiership

Would you describe yourself as a tragic?
No Swans tattoos at this stage – so I cant say I am a tragic swans supporter – just yet!!

Tell us a little bit about your business, your role and the types of clients you work with?
At MLC Advice Randwick, we actively work with our clients to help them achieve the things that are most important to them.

It is a self-employed business, licensed through one of Australia’s leading financial institutions – MLC.

I have been in the financial services industry since 1996, providing personalised strategic financial advice for over 10 years.

The business was founded on the philosophy of making financial advice available and accessible, at a fair and reasonable cost for everyone within the local community.

The vision for MLC Advice Randwick is to be the first option people think of when they require financial help.

How many years have you been involved with the Maroubra Saints?
This is our second year that we have been involved with the mighty Maroubra Saints. Thankfully my son (Hayden u9’s) asked to play AFL last season and he has not looked back. I like to support my kids sports clubs as I know how much work goes on behind the scenes to make it all happen for the kids.

How many kids do you have playing with the Saints this season and in which teams?
Proud dad moment – Hayden is playing in the u9’s this season and he cant wait to rip in on Saturday’s and have a go at tackling. Dad cant wait either

Why do you encourage your kids to play for the Maroubra Saints?
The simple answer was we chose Maroubra Saints from the referrals from local community families that had their kids playing for the club already. I was so impressed with the organisation of the boys last season, every week Hayden came home with a new skill, everyone got a kick, all the kids had a go but most importantly they all had fun along the way.

What’s your usual pre game message to your own kids?
Try your best and make sure you have fun with your mates

…And post-game message?
A high 5 and run through the goals or marks Hayden took. Hayden loves to rehash and maybe embellish the stories which always makes for great listening and a few laughs

Are you a parent who’s extremely encouraging on the sidelines or are you more the silent staring type?
Hopefully somewhere in the middle

Choose : Bacon and Egg roll, Sausage roll, Salad roll or Meat Pie?
One with the Lot thanks – Bacon, Egg, Sausage, Onions and sauce

Long Black, Latte or Decaf Skinny Cap?
Flat White – simple man with simple needs

What’s been the biggest highlight of your own sporting career (so far)?
At the moment I would be happy just going for a run and not breaking down with old man injuries

Do you have a special offer for Saints members who want to find out more about your business?
We are always happy to offer any Maroubra Saints families or friends a no obligation complimentary initial meeting – at this meeting we can discuss anything that is causing you unnecessary financial stress and we can identify any areas that we feel we can offer some financial assistance with. If we cant help we will certainly point you in the right direction.
